Reign Tie
I ride in a light western saddle, but use English reigns? ?
If I buy a horse that is used for western and english pleasure, can I ride it as I usually do, sort of mix matched?
and buy light western saddle like this: http://affordable-tack.com/Abetta-western-saddle-20515BK.jpg
and by english reigns i just mean 2hands, not tied reigns.
I actually don't show, I'm a pleasure rider.
As long as the horse responds to 2 handed pressure on the reins (which it should, if it's trained for English...) and is okay with a western saddle (which it should, if it's trained for western) then go for it.
Just please don't show like that
.
A lot of western pleasure show/performance horses are trained using two hands with a snaffle bit when they start their western training. That's because a snaffle is milder and the trainer has more side pull ability than with a shanked bit. Horses under 5 wearing a snaffle or bosal are allowed to show with 2 hands on the reins (using a western style bridle/reins, not English). Horses over 5 and all horses using a shanked bit have to be shown with the traditional 1 hand on the reins, but many are still schooled with 2 hands.
